The Centre will roll out Aadhaar based Direct Cash Transfer of Subsidies to beneficiary bank accounts from the 1st of January 2013. Under the timelines set, 51 districts will be covered initially, 18 states are to be added by 1st of April and have 16 more states covered within a year. The decision was taken by the Executive Committee on Direct Cash Transfers that met today under the aegis of Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister and the Cabinet Secretary.    The Unique Identity Authority of India (UDAI) will set up a dedicated cell of technical experts to facilitate Aaadhaar enabled Direct Cash Transfers and help individual Ministries.Our correspondent reports, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh is to hold the first meeting of the National Committee on Direct Cash Transfers on 26 of this month.

The Goa Government has decided to honour a renowned Goan legend and eminent scientist Dr. Raghunath Mashelker  by conferring the prestigious Gomant Vibhushan Award for his contribution to science and technology. This is the highest state civilian award declared by the state government to honour the son of the state. Dr. Mashelker, a CSIR Bhatnagar Fellow is presently also the President of Global research Alliance, a network of publicly funded R and D institutes from Asia pacific, Europe and USA with over 60,000 scientists.

The Kudankulam Nuclear Power Project will start its production by the first week of next month. Minister in the Prime Ministers office V Narayanasamy said today that the first tranche of entire 1,000 MW of power will go to Tamil Nadu.He said enriched uranium has been fed in the core of the vessel and the lid was closed. In an interview with a news agency in New Delhi, he cited letters from Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalitha to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on power shortage. Narayanasamy said the Centre is getting support from ruling AIADMK on the project.

THE BUSINESS NEWS

Falling for the second straight day, the Sensex at the Bombay Stock Exchange dropped 163 points, or 0.9 percent, to 18,684, amid declining global markets, today. The Nifty fell 53 points, or 0.9 percent, to 5,686. Stock markets in Japan, China, Hong Kong, South Korea and Singapore slipped between 0.1 percent and 1 percent. The rupee plunged 39 paise, to a two-month closing low of 54.75 against the dollar. Rising for the fifth straight-day, gold climbed 270 rupees,  to regain the 32,000-rupee level after a gap of six-weeks, at 32,040 rupees per ten grams in Delhi. Silver jumped 940 rupees, to 60,800 rupees per kilo. And Brent crude oil futures fell below 108 dollars a barrel, while US crude shed 16 cents, to 84.93 dollars a barrel.

Ragala Venkat Rahul won three gold medals to help India increase their medals tally to seven on the second day of the 14th Asian Youth Weightlifting Championships at Yangon, Myanmar today. Rahul secured the yellow metals in snatch, clean and jerk and overall with a total lift of 280 kgs in the 77kg weight category. Aruna Santa won two gold medals and a bronze in boys 56kg, while Chandrika Tarafdar won a silver in girls’ 44kg category. on the opening day of the championship yesterday.

India’s Mahesh Bhupati and Rohan Boppana have qualified for the Men’s Doubles Semi-finals of the ATP World Tour Finals at London. They beat Daniel Nester of Canada and Max Mirny, 7-6, 6-7,10-5. Meanwhile, defending champion Roger Federer guaranteed his place in the last four stage of the men’s singles with a 6-4, 7-6  victory over Spain’s David Ferrer.

Renowned Polish filmmaker Zanussi, will be honoured with the prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award at the 43rd International Film Festival of India (IFFI) in Goa. The 73-year-old director will be presented with a cash prize of Rs ten lakh and an award by Information and Broadcasting Minister Manish Tewari during the opening function of IFFI on November 20.
